A Story Etched in Tradition
A Legacy Crafted with Care
Passed Through Generations
At Horácio 1945 we believe true quality is crafted by hand, refined through experience, and proven over time.
The legacy began in 1945 with Horácio Teixeira Pinto, who developed a traditional clay oven technique that remains at the heart of production today. From a young age, he worked in pottery, mastering the preparation and handling of refractory clay. By the age of 18, Horácio developed his own techniques for crafting traditional refractory clay ovens, initially for bakeries. At 20, he built a large kiln capable of firing all types of clay materials, including his iconic refractory pots. Passed down through generations, this method continues on today by his grandchildren, combining heritage craftsmanship with ongoing refinement through experience and feedback.
Each oven is handmade in Amarante, Portugal using natural, locally sourced materials. From refractory clay preparation to firing and final inspection, every step reflects precision, patience, and respect for tradition. Our ovens feature hand-laid refractory brick or refractory clay interiors partnered with multi-layer insulation, expansion clays and finishes; ensuring excellent heat retention and even cooking.
Horácio 1945 is beautifully positioned on the outskirts of Amarante, Portugal with views over the valleys and beautiful surrounds.
At Horácio 1945, our craft continues to evolve without compromising authenticity. The result is an oven built to modern high quality standards, performance and durability; built for decades of use.
Standing true to the artisan tradition, the craft of hand made, slow process, natural materials, intentionality found in every step of the processes - forming true, traditional wood fired pizza ovens.
